Halloween display with ‘black man’ hanging from noose causes outrage
A Missouri man removed his Halloween decorations Wednesday at the request of the Scott County sheriff because they were suspected of being a public disturbance.
A Klu Klux Klan figure and the depiction of a black man being lynched were featured in the display.
Rick Hoskins told KFVS that he puts the decorations up every year as a sign of “white pride.”
“There’s been a bunch of people that’s stopped by since I put them up,” explained Hoskins. “Said they want to shake my hand. They said they’re glad to see a little white pride is still left in this country.”
Sheriff Rick Walter asked Rick Hoskins to remove the decorations after receiving several complaints. Hoskins agreed but promised to contact his attorney.
“It’s freedom of expression,” said Hoskins. “They’re my Halloween decorations.”
“I understand it’s freedom of speech,” one woman told KFVS. “But he needs to get over it.”
