The Paranoid Palin: Media is Conspiring Against Us!
The tea party has latched onto a powerful blooming of anti-government sentiment, and that is growing. Some are pushing it over the edge into a fantasy land worldview however, and somewhere down the road the fantasy will collapse into a long winter of discontent.
The most extreme anti-government views won’t wash even in Conservative / Libertarian leaning states like Alaska.
In Alaska there’s a saying about how the populace is made up — usually it’s stated “You get a lot of real winners here, but also a lot of real losers.” Up there you need to have an empirical mindset to survive both the harsh winters and the cyclical boom and bust economies. So you might find a lot of anti government sentiment, but you aren’t going to find many Alaskans who are heavily extreme in that view.
There are very few in the state who have not drawn unemployment at one point in life or another, and a large segment of the available employment is through the government — that’s why they lean Libertarian rather than go whole hog. They are pragmatists — it might be them working for the borough or BLM one day…
So Sarah is saying it’s a dark media conspiracy that Joe’s running behind - but it’s really Joe’s words and deeds that don’t wash with Alaskans. From his hypocrisy of taking Farm subsidies to his hypocrisy in working for the Borough, Alaskans have recognized that his words don’t match his deeds. The worst blow however is his cheating on a poll, then lying about it. In a state where you are only as good as your word and everyone pretty much knows everyone else, that’s a cardinal sin.
Wallace said, however, that some of Palin’s endorsed candidates, such as Senate hopefuls Christine O’Donnell in Delaware and Joe Miller in Alaska, are struggling. Palin campaigned in Alaska last week for tea party favorite Miller, who is trailing a Palin rival, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, in recent polling. The incumbent Republican is running as an independent write-in candidate following her GOP primary loss to Miller.
Palin largely blamed the Alaska media for Miller’s struggles, and Wallace asked whether she was accusing Alaska reporters of conspiring with the Murkowski campaign.
Palin responded: “I’m saying that CBS reporters in the affiliate up there in Alaska on tape are saying, ‘Let’s find a child molester in the crowd as a supporter for Joe Miller; let’s blast that. Let’s concoct a Ron Paul moment there; let’s find any kind of chaos so that we can Tweet an alert saying, ‘Oh, there’s chaos. Joe Miller got punched.’ That’s sick. Those are corrupt bastards, Chris.” She did not share the video on the show
