This is fantastic. I’m really glad you put these up. It is deeply refreshing to see signs from sensible and not stupid people.

Here’s some of what I saw.

Nice! It looks like you got there a bit earlier than we did. It’s interesting to see the signs from the different parts of the rally.

Great photos. It’s nice to see some cleverness, some originality, some awful puns, some thoughtful analysis, and (for once) good spelling and grammar.

Thanks for posting them!

Beautiful job Sionainn. We’re half-way home from the rally, will try to use your page to add a few signs. (We were jammed so close that we could only shoot and tape our Left In Alabama group, and a short way into the wall of people around us. This really was a BFD.

My girlfriend and I had originally intended on walking around aimlessly taking pictures, but we got stuck in the middle of the crowd close to the second row of bigscreens around 11:00-11:30. We were faily close, but still could barly see the dots moving around on the stage… All the people around us were really cool though, and we had a great time… For perspective, it took about 15 seconds for ‘the wave’ to reach us.

I didn’t even think to count how long it took. I think we were looking at the second set of screens. Hard to tell, though, because it really was packed. We were standing near a food vendor so the wafting smells of burgers and fries were a bit of torture. I was so hungry and thirsty, but didn’t want to do anything about it because I didn’t want to have to find a portapotty. I’d have lost my friend and family in that crowd.

LOL I’m so struck by the cleverness and humor in these signs. Many of these people could get a writing gig. Professional signage person or something. Maybe work for Stewart :p

re: #15 Sionainn

We got a hotdog at one of those tents when we got to the Mall… probably 10:30ish… for the rest of the day we were congratulating each other on the brilliance of that move… Food was so hard to come by, unless you wanted to wait in a line for an hour or so. We went back to our hotel and ordered roomservice. The guy on the other end of the phone laughed at us. He said ‘10,000 people just walked in an everyone of them ordered a hamburger..’ ‘call back in 2 hours.’ He said… We didn’t end up eating again until we got to Union Station about 6pm… I just had no conception of how difficult it would be to simply move 10 feet with so many people around… The metro was hilarious, every stop we seemed to pick up more and more people, and no one seemed to be getting off… After the rally, when everyone was pouring into the streets, it was amazing how the rally turned into a march of thousands… and equally interesting to see the exhausted people peeling off to sit on the street, the sidewalks, or just dripping off the buildings and statues. I was just in awe at the sheer humanity present. Sooo much stimulation. It seemed the the whole day went by in an instant.

18 Sionainn  Mon, Nov 1, 2010 8:56:40am

Major Tom: We didn’t realize how long the wait would be at the metro station. We must have stood in line for at least an hour before we got to the point where we could buy our ticket. Good thing we weren’t at a closer station because we might never have been able to cram ourselves onto the train. Sounds like you had the same exact experience we did. We arrived at the mall at 11:00. Most of the pictures of the signs came after the rally was over. We found a bench to sit on because our legs and backs hurt so bad from standing in one spot for so long and asked people if we could take pictures of their signs.

We ended up having dinner around 6:00 in Falls Church at an Italian restaurant where we met up with family I had never met before. The whole day was quite an experience and I’m really glad I got up the gumption to go.

My girl and I were really glad we went too. It turned out to be a real adventure.
