The startling power of Fox News
Fox News is the most powerful media outlet in America, hands down.
Look at today’s headlines for a prime example. A story about the supposedly outrageous cost of President Obama’s trip to India was picked up by Glenn Beck, mentioned on his Fox News program and suddenly the entire GOP and right wing is outraged…except the story wasn’t true. They just took what Fox News said and ran with it.
On election night, more than THREE times as many people watched Fox News coverage than any other network.
Anyone remember when Sarah Palin told Christine O’Donnell to “speak through Fox News”? There’s a darned good reason she did that, she knows Fox is powerful and friendly to Republicans.
In the past year Fox News has done a tremendous job of continuously promoting and legitimizing stories that are either factually inaccurate or plain out wrong: Obama’s religion, his place of birth, Shirley Sherrod, The Black Panthers, Sharia Law, 9/11 truthers, the list goes on and on.
These stories would not gain such mainstream traction if not for Fox News. Look at the election results map from this past Tuesday. Do you think it would be as Red as it is if NOT for Fox News?
Yes, Fox does report real news from time to time, but they are a skilled propaganda machine as well. Think about it. How many GOP talking points have originated on Fox News? It’s almost as if the network is in control of the party. Instead of state controlled media, we have a media controlled state.
Fox isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Their audience is massive, their influence on America is unprecedented…and their lack of interest in facts should be concerning to every educated American citizen.
Even more worrisome is the fact they could become MORE powerful. Fox has strengthened considerably since Barack Obama took office and don’t think that’s going to stop anytime soon.
Can anything stop the meteoric rise of Fox News?
