Vastly off-topic, but I'm curious to know if Mark Davis had anything to say about your piece in D Magazine. I used to think eh was a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything, but around 2003 he seemed to throw most of his intelligence out the window (along with his disabled ex-wife) and I've therefore been unable to endure listening to him.

He sent an e-mail to the editor of D the other day basically taking the article in stride but asserting that I hadn't actually printed his answer or asked him a question that I said I had in the article. I had, in fact, and the editor explained this to him, and he realized his error. Other than that, I don't think he's taken the opportunity to refute the piece or anything like that.

Surprised you haven't received more comments. We were chatting about this a week or so ago one evening - whether anti-Semitism exists in the New Testament or not. I don't quite know if you were going "there" but that's what I got!

As a Jew, I don't really know the Christian Bible. I do know certain passages, like what you quoted above (Edict of Thessalonika) have been used to kill and displace Jews. Many Christians, however, will deny that it exists in the text which I find confusing/disturbing, because these are often the same people who demand that Muslims denounce violence or Islamic texts. They certainly don't believe when Muslims say that violence is not inherent in the texts, it's just a misinterpretation, but isn't that how the Christians explain the Crusades? Killing Jews or wiping out entire bands of American Indians in the name of Christ? Are these the acts of bad Christians or a bad religion?

Anyhoo, maybe some day Islam will reform the way Christianity has.
