Rick Perry Says Secession Not Off The Table
From CNN
Texas Gov. Rick Perry isn’t ruling out the possibility his state may one day secede from the nation.Speaking to an energetic and angry tea party crowd [is there any other kind?] in Austin Wednesday evening, the Lone Star State governor suggested secession may happen in the future should the federal government not change its fiscal polices.
“There’s a lot of different scenarios,” Perry said. “We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.”
Yep, Texas is a pretty unique place. One of the lowest literacy rates in the nation, ever-increasing religious fundamentalism, fans of historical revisionism, haters of gays and their butt sex; oppressors of women, and rabidly anti-government; quite unabashedly, a not play nice with others state. No matter, the socon agenda rages full steam ahead.
The illuminated citizens of the state have my sympathies. No doubt, it’s disconcerting to watch the wheels fall off all around you while people like Rick Perry drag everyone over the cliff, tarting up the whole affair with big hair and a reptilian smile. But with the ever increasing pressure from the hard right, morbidly religious, and anti-science crowd… the outcome seems almost predetermined.
