Given that Murdoch has employed Andrew Napolitano, who has brought 9/11 "truth" to the mainstream, and has had Matt Groening criticizing Fox for years on The Simpsons, it seems pretty clear that Murdoch is a bit of a capitalist nihilist who cares more about expanding his numbers than any political or philosophical ideology. There's a market for this stuff, unfortunately, and he's tapping into it.

Nevertheless, the descent towards anti-Semitism on the part of Glenn Beck is so obvious. When a video parody using Donald Duck was made of Beck, Beck burst into a tirade about how Walt Disney was a great American who called out communists and unions. He's promoted anti-semite writer Elizabeth Drilling on air. Beck is trying to bring the politics of Charles Lindbergh back to the US.

Exactly; it's the nihilism of people like Murdoch that I just don't get. I'm tempted to go into a Walter Sobchak here.

I really hope the ADL shakes off its past grievances with Soros and rises to the occasion here.

3 Mad Prophet Ludwig  Wed, Nov 10, 2010 9:26:16am

I don't think ADL will act as it is supposed to - as in right away and firmly before it is much too late. Foxman has drank the cool aid that Obama is evil.

He has drank so much of it that he can't see this for what it is.

As far as the teabags and winguts turning on the JEws. Like I said a year ago. It was inevitable.

I just think that an accusation of anti semitism should be backed up with more that just an attack against a jew.

Would ANY of the accusations leveled in the link that the poster seems to think is laid out very well be the same if Soros were not jewish?

Soros is clearly anti american, I know this based oin what he has said:

"The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States ."

And he did spends tens of millions of his own money with the single goal of defeating republicans and GWB in particular. The money was spent attacking republicans. He clearly fired the first shots, took first blood. He entered the arena fully armed and with offensive actions.

However if he is attacked for his views on America and his politics by people who disagree with him, I don't see how that can necessarily be anti semitism. It just might be defensive.

The nature of the attack is what's antisemitic-- accusations that a rich oligarch secretly controls world leaders, that it's shadowy and conspiratorial, are all part of the classic attack against Jews.

The attack on Soros would not have been made in the same way if he was not Jewish. And Buck, you can see who the poster is, you don't have to say 'the poster'. Go ahead and say my name.

And he did spends tens of millions of his own money with the single goal of defeating republicans and GWB in particular. The money was spent attacking republicans. He clearly fired the first shots, took first blood. He entered the arena fully armed and with offensive actions.

What are you talking about? What arena? Are you saying this vilifying attack on him is merited because he attacked Republicans?

Are you aware of how much work he did fighting for democracy and against communism in the East Bloc-- and how much he is still doing ther?

However if he is attacked for his views on America and his politics by people who disagree with him, I don't see how that can necessarily be anti semitism. It just might be defensive.

Obviously you didn't bother watching the attack on him, since you think that he was attacked for his views on America and his politics. Why the hell would you comment without having watched it?

6 Buck  Wed, Nov 10, 2010 11:30:51am

Are you saying that he is innocent of vilifying attacks on others?

If I really need to be momre clear, I am saying that he is fully armed and has been attacking people he disagrees with.

When you do that, you can expect return fire.

Beck is reporting his views (not necessarily Murdochs), and backs them up with ACTUAL words and actions. I found the show to be very well documented, and footnoted.

Media Matters defends George Soros with that edited video that you watched, and presents ..... who's views? Who signs and backs the Media Matters video? Their benefactor.... George Soros.

I don't see any hint of anti semetism in Beck's story. I see an attack on a jew, but that is not the same thing.

BTW, what does " fighting for democracy and against communism in the East Bloc" have to do with anything?

What do you mean by 'fully armed'?

So you buy into Beck's insane conspiracy theory about Soros?

I'm done with you, you lunatic.

GAZE.

8 Buck  Wed, Nov 10, 2010 11:57:46am

You always resort to name calling, and attacking on a personal level instead of backing your views up.

George Soros is a big boy, who has (and continues to) attacked a bunch of other people and organizations. Including Beck and Fox News.

I find it hard to believe you watched the entire episode of Glen Beck, and I would guess you only watched the Media Matters edited version.

Media Matters, who in case you missed it, takes money from George Soros with the expressed purpose of attacking FOX NEWS.

George Soros: I have now decided to support the organization. Media Matters is one of the few groups that attempts to hold Fox News accountable for the false and misleading information they so often broadcast. I am supporting Media Matters in an effort to more widely publicize the challenge Fox News poses to civil and informed discourse in our democracy.

re: #8 Buck

Ahhh the wingnut two step.

1..Come into a discussion with a bunch of false misleading or patently stupid talking points.

2. Get called on it.

3. Demonstrate inability to comprehend the English language and logic until driving his interlocutor to the point of distraction.

4. Assume repetition of the same stupid talking points over and over constitutes debate - because when they were were wrong the first time - surely repeating them will make them true.

5. The interlocutor finally shows his humanity and gets fed up.

6. Wingnut whines like a martyr and feigns being insulted.

Buck, Obdi was not insulting you really. He is much too level headed. When he thinks you are a lunatic - it is because you were writing lunacy (which you always do in a petulant and particularly thick headed way).

I on the other hand will be perfectly happy to give a sniveling, crazy mental midget like you, who must knee jerk defend anything with the label "right" no matter how evil it is, the thrashing you so richly earn.

re: #6 Buck

did you see the commercial on Fox with the ghostly menacing star of david while they were slamming Soros?

Whadda ya think of that?

I don't think "Back them up with words" means what you think it means

See, when you back something up, you need facts and data.

That's what that means!

You can't say something crazy, then back up it with more crazy and say YEP! Backed it up!

This is a microcosm of how the right self indoctrinates in its own bubble and verifies by repetitions found in the bubble.

All great examples....

Oh wait.... no examples...

Just a bunch of insults and rhetoric.

You say for example that I was wrong the first time.... but you fail to give an actual example of a fact that I was wrong about.

You say for further example that I gave a false talking point, but fail to provide an example of anything I said that was false.

Media Matters has taken money from George Soros, AND/or organizations that he donates to. He has used his considerable fortune to attack others. Now that he is being attacked, he tries to call it anti-semitism.

But hey.... Don't let me get in the way of your pile on.

It's interesting how both the right-wing in the US and the theocrats in Tehran both see Soros as a bogeyman. Coincidence?
