I love jellyfish! They're so beautiful they're almost unearthly. When my son was young, one of our favorite things to do was go to the zoo aquarium and watch the jellyfish.

They are beautiful.

But for me -
If there's one jellyfish in the water, it will find me. Happens every time we go to Florida for a vacation. I always have some meat tenderizer on hand (takes the sting out).

We used to see gobs of jellyfish every year on the Texas coast. The ginormous round white ones weren't dangerous, but when the Man o' Wars invaded, yikes! I was lucky that I never got stung by one. Their iridescence if gorgeous though.

I saw a nature show one time about some Australian jellyfish that are teeny tiny little things, but whose sting was also the most deadly. Its amazing how anyone lives in Australia; they seem to have the highest concentration of deadly creatures on the planet!

Which reminds me, when I was a kid I once saw a jellyfish (I guess that's what it was) lying on the beach that was quite stunning and of a type I'd never encountered before. It was a little larger than a silver dollar, and probably about 1/4" thick. It was a brilliant blue—somewhere between aquamarine & cerulean—with a white star shape in its center and little blue tassels (stingers) probably an inch or two long growing from its edges. I'd been around the sea enough times to have the sense not to touch anything I wasn't familiar with, and when I showed it to my dad he said that though he'd never seen one either, he was certain that it's brilliant color was a warning of danger.
