I always thought that God helps those who help themselves. So if they need God's help, that means they're not doing their job properly.

Am I missing something here?

Um, Kentucky? I know there are probably plenty of y'all who think we Muslims are a bunch of addle-brained zealots, which might be a good thing in the case.

Y'know why? Because even we believe: "Tie your camel and place your trust in God." You might want to chew on that for a minute if you have half a brain left.

David Greenbaum is a devoutly religious man who believes in the power of prayer. His house is caught in the rising waters of a devastating flood.

A row boat comes by to rescue him; he refuses it because he waits for his God to save him. As the waters rise Greenbaum climbs higher and higher up his house, refusing each successive boat that comes by.

Finally he drowns and goes to heaven. He complains bitterly to the Lord that he was such a good Jew and yet the Lord had forsaken him
'How can you say that, David?' the Lord retorts. 'I sent four boats for you.'

The second law, passed in 2006, goes a good bit further. It requires the Homeland Security Office to publicize the state’s “dependence on Almighty God” in agency educational and training material and mandates that a permanent plaque acknowledging God be posted at the department’s Emergency Operations Center.

As everyone knows, God checks for plaques.

They seem to be forgetting some earlier Protestant advice:

Cromwell‥when his troops were about crossing a river‥concluded an address‥with these words—‘put your trust in God; but mind to keep your powder dry.’

Russian proverb: na Boga nadejsya, i sam ne ploshay, which can be roughly translated as "trust in God but don't be a klutz yourself". Seems like there's an international consensus ;-)

"Pray as if everything depended on God, and act as if everything depended on yourself."

When evil doth reareth it's foul, stinking, and abominable head our Holy triune God will smacketh it down. If not, well then, you just lacked sufficent faith to excite God enough to answer your prayers, so really it's your own fault all those people died/were maimed/were burned/were raped/etc, etc...!

/What huh? "Blaming the victim?" What is wrong, with that?... :p
