Also note that Westboro will be protesting at the Hillel offices at Brandeis the very same day.
As most of you are aware by now, the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), a small group from Topeka, Kan., has announced plans to picket outside the Islamic Center of Boston, Wayland, on the morning of Friday, Dec. 3. They are also going to protest at the Framingham High School, the Hillel offices at Brandeis University and Harvard University, the same day.
We have been in contact with the Wayland Police authorities and have been assured that there would be police presence at our center during the time of the picket. The WBC have their First Amendment rights to peacefully gather on public property and they would be doing so outside of the center. However, they would not be allowed on the center’s property and the Wayland Police will strive to maintain an orderly and safe environment during this time.
The town of Wayland and its surrounding communities have always been very supportive of the presence of our Islamic Center in their midst; this time around it has not been any different. We have received quite a few messages of support from our neighboring houses of worship and other well wishers in the area regarding this development. We are grateful for all the support and sympathy that we have received. It is deeply appreciated.
