Damn him! His ambitions to “take down the powerful” threaten the jobs of thousands in the Chicago area alone. Yet Julian Assange does not care about the people he will hurt. The man is a sociopath.

Pretty sure that same argument was made a few years ago with the leaking of music files. Except here you have the leaking not occurring for personal use but for the goal of governmental and corporate transparency.

You know, once his targets become large corporations and rouge countries like Iran and North Korea, he is essentially placing a death sentence on himself. The U.S. usually plays by the rules, and maybe if this was 50 years ago might have him assassinated, but things are clearly different now-too many people with morals in the higher ups, not even counting the immediate repercussions that would follow if he were to disappear. (if for some reason it seems vague I do not think under any circumstance a hit squad should be sent after him)—however the same cannot be said for the big corporations, N.K., Venezuela and Iran.

It does not matter whether Assange will do this or not. Somebody will. As OrionXP has hinted at, information is as easily reproducable and distributable as music files (which is, in its digital form, essentially information) on the internet. Yes, it is criminal, just as the unlicensed copying and distributing of music is criminal. But it will happen regardless. Such are these technological times. Nothing will prevent it.

If he truly believe ‘the powerful’ to be corrupt and exploitative, then the jobs are really a secondary concern, no? Hypothetically, would you prefer a business that abuses its employees and kills people overseas to stay afloat because we need jobs?

And with respect to the charge of sociopathy; who has wikileaks or Assange hurt? Who has the US government hurt?

I have a whole lot less of a problem with this than with the classified government intel and I bank with BofA.
