Okay, I think the problem is that no one in the State Department buys their own cars. Cars are provided. How can someone reach adulthood without understanding the strategy of walking away. Walking out of the showroom, haggling over price?
There is no way that any competent negotiator allows this issue into the discussions, when the goal is simply to get the discussion going. Fatah understands walking away. The Israelis don’t, or are not allowed to. But Fatah gets to walk away whenever they choose—and the US views this as a failure rather than a tactic.
Aren’t any adults involved here?
