Coming in 2012 - GOP presidential nominee John Boehner?
When discussing potential GOP nominees for 2012, a few predictable names come up: Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, John Bolton and so forth. It’s easy to claim a lot of these people are too conservative and extreme right to win over enough of the national electorate to take the White House, but there’s one guy in the GOP that might stand a better chance: John Boehner.
Boehner is politically experienced and has thus far been able to serve as a bridge between the more traditional GOP and the further right Tea Party elements, catering to them while at the same time not completely caving to them.
Fact is, Boehner is probably one of the more “marketable” people the GOP has right now that is not under contract to FOX news.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a Boehner fan personally and I wouldn’t be too thrilled if he won office, I’m just curious if anyone else out there has considered him a possibility to run in the next election. Boehner does a good job of not coming off as extreme or ill informed as people like Sharron Angle, Christine O’Donnell and hell even Sarah Palin.
Extreme right views are not going to win the next Federal Election. Boehner might potentially be able to connect with both Tea Party and moderate voters in a way other GOP candidates could not.
The Republicans are going to have to come up with an outstanding candidate who is not as far right as the tea party if they hope to win the White House back in two years. Could Boehner be their man?
