The Obamas Christmas Greeting
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama send their Christmas greetings in a taped message from the White House for the weekly address.
“Merry Christmas, everybody. Michelle and I just wanted to take a moment today to send greetings from our family to yours,” President Obama says.
“This is one of our favorite times of year,” First Lady Michelle Obama adds, “And we’re so fortunate to be able to celebrate it together in this wonderful home.
During the holiday season the president reminds Americans that there are some struggling across the nation “who’ve hit a run of bad luck, or who are hungry and alone this holiday season,” and calls on everyone to look out for those less fortunate. The president also says that at the holidays people should be thinking of those who can’t be home for the holidays, those serving overseas.
“While you may be serving far from home, every American supports you and your families. We’re with you. And I have no greater honor than serving as your Commander in Chief.”
Mrs. Obama, who has focused on the issue of military families, says that when men and women in uniform serve, their families serve as well.
“As long as that service keeps the rest of us safe, their sacrifice should also be our own. Even heroes can use a hand, especially during the holidays,” Mrs. Obama said.”
The First Couple encouraged Americans to visit serve.gov to find out what they can do to support the troops this holiday season.
“You’ll see that you don’t need to be an expert in military life to give back to those who give so much to us,” Mrs. Obama says calling for people to reach out through their local school or church, “There are countless ways to contribute by harnessing your unique talents.”
Mr. and Mrs. Obama send their holiday and New Years greetings on behalf of “Michelle, Malia, Sasha and Bo.”
