Interesting that instead of linking to the more professionally written CNN article that contains the same facts, you chose to link to the Examiner article written by someone named Marc Schenker, who isn’t even pretending to be objective in his reporting. Even if one ignores the sarcastic tone of the article, Mr. Schenker’s snarky reference to the “religion of peace” in the sidebar under the photo of what he refers to as the “holy” Quran is quite telling

I was originally going to up-ding this page for providing a newsworthy story, but looking at your source article quickly changed my mind (hence the down-ding). That’s not to imply that you care about my dings one way or the other, but other people do read this stuff. So with those other readers in mind, below is what a couple of minutes of Googling returns with regard to Mr. Schenker:

Marc Schenker’s Contributor Profile
(Anyone can become a Yahoo! contributor by simply signing up.)

Other Examiner articles by Marc Schenker
Mr. Schenker’s profile says that due to the “MSM’s failure to provide honest/balanced coverage and analysis from both sides of the political spectrum, he includes conservative and liberal viewpoints”, yet his collection of article doesn’t strike me as particularly balanced or non-partisan.

And thank you for not getting defensive or angry.

The Examiner doesn’t seem to have very high standards. This past summer, one of their contributors ran with a wild story about the supposed seizure of two Texas ranches by the Mexican Los Zetas drug cartel. It was quickly debunked. Then in September, they published a story by a guy who was touting the writings of creationists in his article about how the Grand Canyon is supposedly direct evidence of the Biblical flood.

Now I automatically disregard anything they publish as either being inaccurate or extremely slanted.

re: #3 CuriousLurker

It really only takes a couple of botched articles to tarnish a smaller newspaper/magazine outlets credibility— especially when they’re so entirely biased and lopsided towards one end. It shows a complete lack of vetting on the publisher’s/owner’s behalf and also reflects poorly on the editors. Unless of course they are intentionally promoting a viewpoint, then you’ll find yourself in the Foxnews’ sandbox, with a bunch of old white guys with teabags hanging from their hats.

True. We have so much more info immediately available to us now, but the more there is the more difficult it gets to sift through for accuracy. It’s as if the burden of vetting is now on the reader in many cases. *sigh*
