Wingnut Therapist goes to court over false memories of Parental Sodomy
False memory therapy appears again in the news; you sadly see cases like these every few years as hucksters will use any angle to pry money from gullible rubes.
According to the lawsuit, “Defendants counseled Plaintiff and his family, and others, that their problems were largely as a result of anal sodomy and evil spirits instilled by anal sodomy. Defendants counseled Plaintiff and his family that the vast majority of people have been anally sodomized at an early age. Defendants attempted to convince Plaintiff and his wife that they had been victims of sodomy by their parents. Defendants counseled Plaintiff and his wife to cease all contact with their parents.”
The lawsuit states the Knoxes alleged to Albany police officers that Skotko had sodomized his children and told them he had admitted to abusing them. “Defendants had no reasonable basis for making those statements and they were untrue,” the suit states.
Marion Knox’s counseling practices have come into question before. In 2002, defense attorneys for a Brownsville man accused of sex abuse found Knox had been counseling the girl who filed the charges. The team spoke with other families who had been through counseling with Knox and cited three cases in which Knox had concluded there had been sodomy within the families, although the families disputed the allegation. The charges against the Brownsville man were later dropped.
Knox is not registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists. However, members of the clergy are not required to have a license to provide counseling.
Although Knox said he would not comment on its accuracy, he did confirm to a Democrat-Herald reporter that he had been the subject of an interview, he thought in the late 1990s, claiming sodomy is a method of mind control used by highly placed political officials, members of the Masonic order and the Catholic Church.
