What Happened to the Real Dennis Prager?
Recently, Charles had to re-tweet his response to Dennis Prager’s open letter because someone can’t figure out how to use the LGF search.
This brought up a memory of mine from awhile back. As part of a seminar for work, we had to watch a video by Dennis Prager called “Character: Who Needs It?” The video was mostly unremarkable and corny. Read the IMDB page for the series here. Due to copyrights, this video isn’t available online, but you can still buy it from his store ($30 for one DVD!?).
This event stuck out in my head because while I watched the video, I recognized Dennis Prager’s name, but couldn’t place it. I concluded after the video that he must be a liberal commentator. How did I draw that conclusion? For starters, the video starred people like Ed Begley Jr, Matt Stone, and other “Hollywood Liberal” types. The other part that struck me was the content of the video. As I said, it’s corny. It’s just a series of skits about character. In one skit, a boy is read a bedtime story. The story is about Robin Hood, and days of old, chivalry, etc. Dennis (the narrator) proudly states that this is character. The video then shows the same skit, this time with the boy being read a story about gaming the tax code, maximizing deductions, and preserving his amassed wealth. Dennis, in a scolding voice, tells us that this is NOT character.
Imagine my surprise when I googled him later and found that he’s the opposite nowadays. Now he parrots the tea party talking points and seems to be more like the boy trying to protect his financial assets.
Then Dennis Prager has the balls to say Charles has flipped sides? I can’t speak for Charles, but it seems to me that he’s used solid evidence to change his mind on many issues. This is rational, and by doing so, Charles hasn’t changed his principles. He has character.
Prager has chosen to exemplify the new “petrified mind” style of thinking; he’s changed his principles, because it was easier than changing his mind.
