Jared Lee Loughner’s possible political beliefes.
I am tired of posting this message over and over again on various different threads as it comes up so let me state it here in a page that I can link to.
I am well aware that someone he knew from Highschool said he was a liberal back then.
However there are a few important facts to consider.
1: Their last interaction was five years ago. People’s political beliefs tend can change a lot in five years.
2: In conjunction with #1 its important to keep in mind not just what books Mr. Loughner says he likes to read, but also what political positions he talked about in his you tube videos. One of those big ones demanding the US government switch to a currency backed by gold and silver. This is a position that is all but exclusively held by liberterians and if someone can prove otherwise I”d be interested in seeing.
3: Taking 1 and 2 together, it isn’t impossible for one to believe that he might have seemed “liberal” in 2007 because he was opposing much of the government expansion that George W. Bush was doing when in fact, he was disliking Bush for not being enough for a true small government conservative.
4: Trying to pick out someone’s political stance based on what music they listen to, or what substances they choose to imbibe is stupid on several different levels.
There is as yet no decisive proof that he was a Liberterian or that when was a liberal. I contend that his you tube posts about currency backed by a gold standard would argue for liberterianism being his political position, but there are still doubtlessly more facts to uncover and while cases can be made in either direction some cases are stronger than others.
Please quit it with the meme that he was a liberal unless you have more proof than the arguments related to in this post unless you have a counter argument against the theory I put forward.
PS: The fact that he likes both Hitler’s autobiography and and the Communist Manifesto should effectively cancel each other out, so I won’t argue he was a conservative because of the former if you kindly don’t argue he was a liberal because of the later.
