Cars Could One Day Travel In ‘Platoons’ On Highways
European researchers are developing a new technology that would allow cars to follow behind each other while the leader controls the actions of the other vehicles.
The idea is to create a new way of traveling on roads so vehicles travel in a convoy with a lead vehicle in control.
Tom Robinson of engineering company Ricardo U.K. said in a statement: “This is a major milestone for this important European research program. With the combined skills of its participating companies, SARTRE is making tangible progress towards the realization of safe and effective road train technology.”
