Justice for Justus Opot in pot case
The Mexican government could release Opot and Pérez as early as 5 p.m.
Two U.S. citizens accused drug trafficking in Juarez were freed this afternoon by a district judge.
“I am very satisfied with the judge’s decision,” said Mario Zamora, attorney for Dr. Justus Lawrence Opot. “There was justice.”
Opot, 40 and Marisol Pérez, 33, were arrested the morning of Jan. 12 for turning 110 pounds of marijuana to the federal police in Juárez. Both said someone had planted the drugs in Pérez’s car without them knowing hoping the drugs would move into El Paso, where the defendants work at a mental health agency.
