Groups to gather at noon on border, protest cartel violence
Hundreds of El Paso and Juárez college students, activists and residents are expected today at a border rally to end the violence in Juárez.
The “Peace and Justice Without Borders” gathering will be at noon at the border fence between Sunland Park, N.M., and Anapra, Mexico. The rally will be on both sides of the border.
“We insist that everyday life and peace be re-established and an end to criminality, whether from the state, drug- trafficking organizations, gun dealers and smugglers, gangs, police or the military,” said a statement by organizers.
Organizers “blame U.S. and Mexican policies for the chaos, namely the futile war on drugs,” the document stated.
