I saw this earlier and he seems to contradict himself...

And while the Brotherhood is an incredibly large and powerful organization, it is today a product of years of suppression, torture, and intimidation. While it seeks to change society, it does not pursue an explicitly political agenda. Rather, it believes that an ideal politics will be achieved once society is Islamized—in other words, enough introduction of Muslim values into popular culture, and society will simply reform itself—and that includes the state. So while they have political ideals, they certainly don’t have an explicit political program.

So the MB are political and non-political Islamists who have political ideals but not an "explicit political program".

He also addresses the fact that the riots broke out after Friday prayers...

Egypt’s revolution doesn’t have to be Islamic because Islam isn’t at the heart of the problem on the ground. In fact, the non-political Egyptian Islam of the last few decades has succeeded in deeply Islamizing Egyptian culture, making Muslim piety interwoven with the everyday rhythms of Egyptian life. We saw this in the protests after the Friday prayers today, in the spontaneous congregational prayers that took place in the heat of demonstrations—and we can see it in the number of Egyptian women who veil

So over the past few decades Egypt has become increasingly Islamified and more women are covering up. That trend doesn't make me feel better about the prospect of the Muslim Brotherhood gaining power in Egypt.

On the other hand, I don't think you could get all these thousands of people to hold a revolution and tell them, "Go out and risk your lives, but for Allah's sake don't let on that you REALLY want Egypt to go Islamist."

True, the Islamists might try to take advantage of the situation to get in power anyway. But will the people accept that?

It's not a matter of how it started, it's a matter of who finishes on top.

They might not have a choice. Islamists are quite willing to use terrorism to get what they want, and even the threat of that might force concessions they can leverage to move Egypt in their direction. The Muslim Brotherhood isn't likely thinking in terms of 'total takeover' but rather is planning to use this crisis as a way to gain some power and then use that to start Egypt down the Islamist path.
