Wow that was in HuffPo? Color me surprised.

Not really it is Alan Dershowitz.

I like it.

Finally the far left/George Galloway bs about US policy over there starts to take the hits it has always deserved. Well done! I'm tweeting this right now.

Don't look to the Huffpo community to change their tune anytime soon. I just glanced over the comments. They're over there making up stories about Israel's "dismal" human rights abuses.

Maybe we should talk about gays in the Middle East and who gives them rights and who lynches them. Who accepts them into the community and who doesn't. Who denies that any even exist and who doesn't.

Why aren't Israeli citizens rising up and rioting in the streets? Let them answer that.

Which countries in the Middle East gave a home to Jews only to kick them out? How about Europe? Meanwhile Arabs were never kicked out of Israel. They were offered a state many times over.

Whatever one may think about Dershowitz, he is always right on when it comes to pinpointing the issues about Israel. Whether anyone listens or not, it won't stop him from speaking. God bless that man.

Not just gays but also women and other groups. And yeah my big problem with the far left has always been how they act like Israel yet never a word about the real authoritarian regimes in the ME.

Imagine how the left in the U.S. would carry on if white, Christian males were given the rights over women and minorities in this country (including the right to kill them by throwing boulders at their heads) the way that Muslim males have in Arab countries. Talk about rioting in the streets?

The way to fix this is that they must visit Israel. I believe every Jew, firstly, should visit at least once in their lifetime. Natan Sharansky recently talked about this. When Jews visit, it's like a shot of B12 (my analogy not his)! For Jews, it's a sense of renewal. For non-Jews, if you're religious, it's a place of wonder and spirituality. For the non-religious, the history will leave you with a sense of awe. On top of all that, it's a lot of fun.

I'd like to note that the 'hard left' has been talking about the abuses against women in Afghanistan for a dog's age, and for a very long time were the only ones talking about it. When we were funding the muhajadeen in Afghanistan, the 'hard left' objected on the grounds that they were misogynist, theocratic assholes.

So while the article has quite a bit of truth to it, it leaves out a hell of a lot, as well.

The plight of women in the Arab world was not in the least a concern for the 'right' until it became a by-product of the excuses made up for the Iraq invasion. It was something focused on by the feminist left.

That's true, however I would back up the essential point being made about criticisms of Middle Eastern countries' human rights violations.

Absolutely. The Feminist Majority which sprung from N.O.W.? Or is N.O.W.? It's been a 25 year project.

At any rate, I think this is why Dershowitz very specifically uses the codifier "hard" left as opposed to just "Left", "Liberal" or "Democrat". It is a distinct group and a group very well represented at HuffPo so I'm glad they heard it even if they didn't hear it.

Yeah, I would agree too. Mainstream liberals were absolutely critical of regimes like the Taliban pre 9-11 and it doesn't shock me in the slightest that N.O.W had been focusing on the issue. My only problem and I say this as someone who leans strongly left in my ideology is with a far left who acts like Israel is awful yet is silent on other regimes that are much worse. I'm talking about people well to the left of you, me, and most people here.

It would be insane. I think you're right about that visiting Israel. The history does seem like it would draw me to it, after all it's my major. If I've seen correctly, it seems like Israel has a lot of beautiful beaches and of course women too.

It's none too surprising for me. Despite what the anti-Israel portion of the left tries to portray him as, he generally aligns with the Democrats, including a history almost $20,000 in donations to various Democrats since 1991, compared to $1,860 for Republicans (OpenSecrets.)
