“We screen them with special care and train them to serve the state,” the spokesman told the panel, which was part of the Herzliya Conference.

I would have translated that—‘and train them to be employed by the’….need a different word than ‘state’.

If my husband wouldn’t lose his security clearance, I would volunteer for this. Actually, I’d like to be a spokesperson, & I;d do it for free. Whenever Israel talks to the media, it only makes things worse because of the apologetic/otherwise close-mouthed way they do it.

re: #2 Flavia

This is actually a pretty delicate operation, which is why Israel is in a type of paralysis when it comes to media relations, why they’ve hired a European media group to design a plan.

The media can print whatever it wants to print, and there is a momentum among the media to stand by their story no matter what facts get in the way. The history of this website is a testament to that fact. Right now their story is that Israel is the greatest obstacle to world peace and candy.

Add to this, that Arab media is tightly controlled, and western reporters have been intimidated into printing the story the Arabs want printed. This is why news agencies have so many stringers who seem to be affiliated with hostile regimes and terrorist organizations.

Add to this, the west’s dependence on oil from the Middle East and the desire to make sure the source’s of this oil are happy, and there is only the tiniest space left for truth to come through—if you can find that space.

Add to this a public that is all too eager to believe anything and everything negative about Israel, and you’ve got a helluva task on your plate.
