Thanks for posting this. I had never heard this woman's story before but her story is a reminder that we need to remember this history. And the way to do that is to learn from oru mistakes and not go around having license plates that honor KKK founders.

I'd never heard of this woman myself til today. then again, it wasn't til a few years ago that I understood how prevalent-- and enduring-- lynching was.
It's interesting that the motive behind many murders was claimed to be black men raping white women. (or whistling at them). It shouldn't be a surprise that this was going on in reality (the KKK or whoever raping black women).

So much for my liberal education and supposed indoctrination.

Addendum: I mean of course that the false excuse for lynching should be in fact a real crime-- white men raping black women.

I have to say regarding lynching it's one of the reasons why I am not a huge FDR fan, like a lot of his stuff but the man completely wimped out in dealing with the issue. Truman whom I admire more was more courageous on this issue. It was a terrible thing. I believe when Congress a few yeras back passed a resolution apologizing for all the lynchings, there was a man interviewed who had survived one. I can't imagine what that man went through. Just terrible stuff and yeah it doesn't surprise me at all that the KKK was doing this kind of stuff to black women since after all they saw blacks and others as being less than human.

It's also the remnants of the slave system. Black women WERE property, and you can bet that that included their sexuality.

Geez, Ice--Abbeville is 30 miles from here, we built 7 Habitat houses there, and I've never heard of this. I guess the Visitor's Bureau has other things to celebrate.
