Libya Protests Build, Showing Revolts’ Limits and Power
…The unrest in Libya demonstrates both the power and the limits of the uprisings that have reverberated across the Arab world. Though its population remains tied to the broader region through satellite channels like Al-Jazeera and the Internet, relaying the dramatic events that have unfolded in Tunis, Cairo and elsewhere, the world’s attention on a country that is one of the most difficult to reach remains far more muted. A refrain of opposition leaders was that the world was failing to act, even as they sought to post videos, statements and testimony on social networking sites with mixed success.
“The international community is watching,” said Issa Abdel Majeed Mansour, an opposition figure based in Oslo, Norway. “Why isn’t anyone helping us?”
