I was going to post this yesterday but someone, i can't recall who, had made a comment that Mother Jones was partisan and in such a way, that it made me think that maybe they didn't have a good reputaion.

One possible response to that comment (or the ones like it that you will see in the future) is, "Did you find something in the article you think is not true?" Or something to that effect. It's hard to find sources that don't have biases. It's not hard to find good information in biased sources.

You've got people who post articles from the National Review. I don't think it's a big deal to post someone from The Nation or Mother Jones.

Meanwhile, a series of tax breaks and other goodies that Walker and the Republican legislature passed just after his inauguration dramatically increased the deficit that Walker now says he's trying to close.

Polifact gets to the bottom of that slander.

"The tax cuts will cost the state a projected $140 million in tax revenue -- but not until the next two-year budget, from July 2011 to June 2013. The cuts are not even in effect yet, so they cannot be part of the current problem."

re: #3 Buck

If you don't mind me asking, what state do you live in?

I don't mind you asking, but I am curious why you would ask.

re: #6 Buck

I actually wanted to ask your occupation, but i thought that would be too personal. But mostly because i wanted to open up dialog on your point of view on this and what drives it. If you are a New Yorker, we could debate the actual history of unions in New York, If you are from the south, which i was assuming you were (based on your name for some reason) they have a whole different history then say, the north when it comes to unions. I don't know as much about the history of unions in the North (New England as well as mid westerners) as i do in the south.

I hail from Winnipeg. If you have studied unions then you have heard of the Winnipeg General Strike.

I have been a member of a Union in the past (Last when I was working at the University of Manitoba), and I have been a scab (when I worked for a large grocery chain during a union strike.

I currently run a technology and licencing company (so I am in management).

I am an open book, I am NOT one of those people here trying to hide who I am.

What is the view in Canada about what is going on in Wisconsin. Is it generally supported or is it equally mixed?

I don't know. I would guess equally mixed.

It seems to me that a Union holds too much power, especially over a city. Unlike a business, they can't just close the doors. So how does a strike end? What leverage does a city have?

I also think that government has to LEAD when it comes to employee relations. However a budget must be kept. There is not going to be unlimited funds. You can't just push a 100 million dollar budget deficit down to be dealt with "later".

Yes, the union members are our families and friends, but so are the tax payers.
