Glenn Beck Praised Jared Cohen before he smeared Cohen
This week Fox News’ Glenn Beck targeted Jared Cohen, former State Department official under both Secretaries Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton and now head of the Google Ideas think tank.
Beck — who insists that the revolution in Egypt will lead to the establishment of a new Islamic caliphate across the globe — attacked Cohen on Monday for assembling the Alliance for Youth Movements (AYM), an organization that supports “technology driven grassroots activism” to combat extremism around the world and one that worked with pro-democracy activists in Egypt.
Beck claimed to have “exposed” Cohen as “an instigator of a revolution” and asserted that AYM has ties to radical Islamists. Later in the week Beck said that those seeking to build a caliphate, including the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran have “help from Google.”
Beck didn’t mention that during Iranian protests in 2009, Cohen played an important role in ensuring that Iranians did not lose access to Twitter. That might be a bit too much cognitive dissonance for Beck, who supports popular uprisings in Iran and who, after all, is accusing Cohen of aiding the Iranian regime in the creation of a new Islamic caliphate.
He also didn’t mention that, as Cohen pointed out on Twitter this week, Beck previously praised Cohen’s work. In June 2008, Beck hosted Cohen on his CNN show to discuss Children of Jihad, which Beck described as “fascinating” and “a fantastic book.”
Good thing his core audience is totally brainwashed and won’t care that Beck is an out and out phony. Also too, a huckster.
