The B.C. government has applied to introduce last-minute evidence at a case examining the constitutionality of Canada’s anti-polygamy law, which formally wrapped up evidentiary hearings earlier this month. Closing arguments are scheduled for the spring.

Well that’s just bullshit. Underage marriage is not more or less relevant to polygamy than to monogamy. It reminds me of attempts to tie pedophilia to homosexuality.

Yes but it’s the FLDS church that is challenging the law, so it’s fair to look at the results and at what they actually do. FLDS child brides are not uncommon.

They will be illegal regardless of polygamy, so no, it’s not fair.

FLDS child bride marriages are very common, and there are multiple states that have written laws specifically aimed at stopping them.

These girls are coerced into marriage before most girls their age are even ready for dating (or high school, or driving, etc.)

Yes, and the fact these sects are usually closed off from public view obscure the number of underage girls even more. Every time they’ve been exposed, a slew of underage brides emerges.

This cult does not recognize the need for legal marriages, so the underage “brides” are not automatically protected by law. They’re pretty good at hiding what they’re doing from public view.

This is what happens when cults avoid public scrutiny. A whole lot of bad shit goes on, and much of it isn’t legal.

Sure, but then still polygamy has nothing to do with it - they will still be breaking the law, anti-p law or not.
