Pueblo Politics: Tea party plans to counter new local progressive movement
Civil but Firm Discourse. I hope that’s not on its way to memedom.The day after the Progressive Democrats of America kicked off its new Tucson chapter to counter the tea party, the tea party is now planning its own response.
Tucson Tea Party organizer Trent Humphries sent out a message to supporters on Facebook today, saying the group is not going to go away, and to prove it, they plan a rally Friday afternoon.
Humphries said he hopes to draw more than 300 people — that’s how many attended yesterday’s Progressive Democrats meeting — to the corner of East Speedway and North Tucson Boulevard. The event is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
In his message, Humphries said the gathering will be the “Inaugural meeting of the Tucson Tea Party Institute for Truthful, Open, Civil but Firm Discourse wherein we promise to be kind and loving to all creatures; Oh, and pick up our trash afterwards….”
