Things enroute to extinction
What will be the equivalent of 8 track tape decks in short order? It’s easy to predict a few things.
Let’s start with spinning drives. Whether it’s a CD, DVD, or the magnetic platters in your hard drive they are on path to just go away over the next decade. They will be replaced by SSD or “Solid State Devices” such as SSD drives and SDHC MMC chips in a variety of sizes.
What else will morph? What about those game cartridges? They can be as small as your pinky nail now. The game you buy at the store whether for PC or console will come in a smaller solid state format or it will be digitally streamed.
Cords for networked things? Those will be around a while longer, but sooner or later most things like speakers, cameras, TV’s, Computers, and car stereos will become wireless, and shortly after you will be surprised to find refrigerators, washers, dryers, light switches, and inventory scanners wirelessly networked into your home systems as well.
Light switches as we know them will change, now they will be remote controlled from devices and displays anywhere on your network. Of course the manual toggle will still be there in some form, but you will be able to set bright dim or off remotely.
