Not many noticed, but 1600 Tea Party Patriots gathered over the weekend, and could it be a tea party if the Mad Hatter didn’t show?

So Ron Paul was there to predictably win the straw poll after giving the usual arm flapping speech in a nasal, querulous, and whiny voice.

The only real news from the gathering was that Godfather Pizza CEO Herman Cain took second place even though TPaw attended in full press pander mode. More on that at MinnPost, CBS, and Mother Jones.

How does Papa Paul win so many straw polls? from what i have read, I thought he wasn’t embraced by some conservatives?

He isn’t, but the tea party types seem to always think he’s some kind of magic Genie with the cure for what ails America.

Fizzle indeed. I saw some mention of the event and didn’t even bother looking for stupid signs, radical sponsors or videos of the crazy speeches. The Wingnut blogs even ignored it.

His followers also stack the deck of poorly-controlled polls. They overwhelmed past CPACs with reduced-cost ‘student’ tickets, and pump-up online polls that don’t include unique registration. Stuffing the eballot box.
