Maybe it’s time for a little primer on Israeli politics.
First, it’s important to understand that the entire country of Israel has the same population as a large US city. Therefore, there are two tiers of political viewpoints.
On top, there is the national leadership—who must take a global view and be aware of international wind currents.
Then there is this rapid drop off, to a Chicago precinct view of the world. It makes for a very unique and, for the most part, incomprehensible democracy, that somehow works quite well. Quite well being defined as endless passionate debates and rapidly shifting points of views and coalitions.
