Give a man a fish, or he will destroy the only existing vial of antidote.

Walker is escalating this into a Federal issue. Now he's playing poker with President Obama, or getting darned close.

When he stops being a governor I imagine La Cosa Nostra has openings. They like people who are comfortable threatening people. /

Is the guy a douche? Yes. But the bottom line is that he was elected governor, and the senators have a responsibility to show up and govern. There will be another election cycle soon if the voters don't like what they see. I find his policies distasteful, but elected officials cannot simply refuse to govern.

They really don't have to show up. Many legislators accumulate power because of their superior knowledge of parliamentary procedure. That's part of the legislative gig. It's like a reverse filibuster.

Why not? The GOP did it for two years with abuse of the filibuster rules. If Walker would compromise on collective bargaining, this would be over.

He never made any bones about what he was going to do if elected. Time for the representatives to stop being pussies and stand up to be counted. I don't agree with how state government has been turned into personal fiefdoms as it has in New York. It makes me sick and I despair for the survival of federalism and democracy.

So in the middle of a recession he thinks laying off people is a good idea? And this is supposed to make the senators look bad?

There are any number of ways they could fix the deficit. The shortfall amounts to $24 per year per human resident. They could even fix the budget with the current bill if they just took the collective bargaining part out. But he is so ideologically fixed on a union busting point that will have zero economic impact that he will let the economy burn to the ground to get it.

Rigid thinking strikes again.

Being from the state... trust me, he will initiate layoffs and dismissals in the next few days. Expect those separations to be mainly from teaching positions and state offices that Walker does not want to see fully staffed or funded. This is just the very beginning...wait until you see what he has in store for the next state budget! Next up, you cannot vote in WI unless you have a state ID...
