South Dakota senate passes abortion bill requiring 72 hour waiting period
“To protect women”, of course:
After a long and emotional debate, the South Dakota Senate on Wednesday approved a bill requiring additional steps to provide informed consent before a woman can have an abortion.
HB1217 passed the Senate 21-13 after four different attempts by critics to amend the bill failed narrowly.
The 11-page bill would extend the waiting period before an abortion from 24 hours to 72 hours, and require women seeking abortions to attend counseling at a “pregnancy help center” whose mission is to “educate, counsel, and otherwise assist women to help them maintain their relationship with their unborn children.”
Supporters of HB1217 said the extra steps were a necessary safeguard to protect women from being coerced into having an abortion.
“This bill protects women against coercion. HB1217 is not an abortion ban bill,” said Sen. Al Novstrup, R-Aberdeen.

Why don’t they just make it a nine month waiting period and call it done.
