Yet another front in the war on women.

Republicans sure are scared of women. They're attacking women's rights even harder than they're attacking unions.

Just out of curiosity, are there any other elective medical procedures that have a legally mandated waiting period for adults?

Next, they'll require a name for the unborn human on some kind of non birth certificate that needs to be notarized by three church elders, a white shaman, and a an appointed representative of the Republican party.

Oregon's euthanasia law requires one - 15 days I think.

Coercion? Do they think women are too stupid to make their own choices?

I think that's exactly what they're counting on. Who wants to bet that 72 hour period will consist of unrelenting pyschological warfare on the women? Abortion makes you infertile, it gives you breast cancer, it'll send you mad, blah, blah, blah.

"Supporters of HB1217 said the extra steps were a necessary safeguard to protect women from being coerced into having an abortion."

So instead they can be coerced into NOT having an abortion?

Yes.

It'll be easier to buy an automatic weapon than get an abortion.

Yes. The mythology of the woman-hatin wingnut sez that abortions are something women do on the spur of the moment, between getting a haircut and a pedicure at the mall, because they have a friend who is getting one that day too.

Such women are only coerced by our horrible, librhul secular and sexual culture into believing that reproductive freedom is a right and good thing. If only they really understood what an abortion is, like that male protestor outside the clinic does, then they'd understand.

by the way, IIRC, something like 98 percent of SD's counties do not have access to abortion, so this waiting period is going to force women to travel twice and take all that time from work too. It's about coercion all right-- forced pregnancies.
