From the Only In Israel files: The last surviving member of Israel’s first Knesset (parliament) has passed away. Tawfik Toubi, born in Haifa in 1922, was an Arab and a Communist who served in Israel’s Knesset (parliament) from independence until his retirement in 1990. Can anyone imagine a Jew, must less a communist Jew, serving in the parliament of any Arab country? The next time I hear someone use the words apartheid and Israel in the same sentence, I intend to respond with two words, as well. Tawfik Toubi.
