It’s Never a Good Day When you Get a Visit from Whiteman
Three Missouri-based B-2 Spirit bombers were among American forces taking part in the strikes inside Libya early today, according to the U.S. Air Force.
After the initial salvos of more than 100 Tomahawk missiles fired on Saturday from U.S. Navy ships, three of the aircraft from Whiteman Air Force Base led strikes early today on “a variety of strategic targets over Libya,” the Air Force reported.
The B-2s flew a 25-hour round-trip mission and dropped 45 guided weapons, each weighing 2,000 pounds, on hardened aircraft shelters in Libya, the Air Force reported. The planes returned to Whiteman early Sunday afternoon.
The Whiteman-based 509th Bomb Wing is one of only two Air Force units to operate the B-2 stealth bombers, according to the base website.
Its planes can fly round-trip missions from the base near Knob Noster to any place in the world and deliver a variety of traditional or precision-guided bombs or missiles.
