Man admits he and son killed postal staff
In a videotape played at his federal detention hearing in Memphis Tuesday, Chastain Montgomery Sr. said the pair escaped from the Oct. 18 robbery in Henning, Tenn., with just $63 but had expected to take $25,000.
“I asked (employee Paula Robinson) for money; she only had a few dollars, quarters. I lost it, man. I started shooting. I probably emptied the clip. My son was by the other lady (Judy Spray). He shot right after I (did),” he stated.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Charmiane Claxton ordered Montgomery held without bond, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported.
Federal prosecutors have not said whether they will seek the death penalty, but they called Montgomery a public danger and a flight risk.
