Haley Barbour said today that he’d support reinstating Don’t Ask Don’t Tell because “when you’re under fire, and people are living and dying on split-second decisions, you don’t need any kind of amorous mindset that can affect saving people’s lives and killing bad guys.”

This is only an echo of how Black soldiers were treated prior to desegregation in our armed forces. That Blacks (and now gays) would disrupt morale and erode the cohesion of combat troops. I don't know how you can think of repealing DADT without thinking about that.

Oh, and 'amorous mindset' reminds me of something I learned from Sarah Vowell--apparently when the late King Kamehameha was persuaded by missionaries to ban adultery, they ran into the problem that there was no word for 'adultery' in Hawaiian, so he passed a law against 'mischievous mating'.
