An additional thought: If anyone thinks that Abbas' willingness to "give up" U.S. funds has no connection to the announcement last week by the Three Quislings of Europe of a new plan to sell out the Jewish state, please contact me via LGF -- Charles, I will happily share the commission with you -- for great deals on a bridge in New York City, development rights in Okefenokee and ocean-front property in Arizona.

"Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is making a heavy push for reconciliation with Hamas and is willing to give up hundreds of millions of dollars in U.S. aid if that's what it takes to forge a Palestinian unity deal, a top aide said Monday.
The comments were the latest sign that Abbas is giving up on stalled peace talks with Israel and prefers to pursue unity with Gaza's Hamas rulers as he makes a push toward independence." is willing to give up billions of dollars in order to randomly kill people."

I do not think his statement means what he and the AP think it means.

Worth an extra up-ding for the Princess Bride reference.

Actually, it's not easy when you're that corrupt. Which tells you that he is more of a murder than a corrupt politician. But we knew this from his wild young days when he financed a massacre.

I don't think he, or the PA, views this as passing on the cash. First, I don't believe they think for a second that the U.S. will not find some way to rationalize continuing to give them funds even in the unlikely event of a "unity" government with Hamas. Look at Lebanon, where the U.S. continues to give hundreds of millions of dollars to the Hizb'allah-controlled government out of fear of losing our almost non-existent influence. I would expect no difference here. Second, I believe that Abbas believes that the EU will make up any shortfall in funding from the U.S., and is therefore entirely unconcerned about even the small risk of a cut-off in U.S. aid.
In the final analysis, Abbas is focused on what has always been his strategy, namely securing "recognition" of a Palestinian state by the UN General Assembly without ever having to comply with the explicit or implicit mandates of UNSC Resolutions 242 or 338 of a negotiated resolution that includes, among other things, an end to all states of belligerency and secure and recognized boundaries.
