Boo fucking hoo. Making fun of Palin and Bachmann = misogyny? Umm… no. Calling Palin and Bachmann “bimbos” doesn’t degrade all women as these whiners suggest. It degrades Palin and Bachmann. Interestingly, the only truth, that Powers admits in the video, is that Maher is an equal opportunity offender, which seems to diffuse the accusation that Maher is somehow especially misogynistic. But somehow, ridiculing Palin and Bachmann is still over the line, just because.

That’s the thing. Alot of claims were made of sexism when Hillary Clinton ran for president and were brushed off but when you hear it from the other side, it gives the claims more levity.

Mahar is also a racist of the first order…

Criticizing a women is not the problem, it is the language you use to do so. If it is language that wouldn’t make sense if they were male, then it probably crosses the line.
There are many examples on this board of exactly the thing Kristen is talking about. Ludwigs “Slut Shaming” rant comes to mind.
Basically conservative women are all stupid and …. (fill in the nasty pejorative here)

While Maher is a bigot, that link doesn’t establish his racism. Islam is not a race or an ethnicity. (On the other hand it turns out that he supports racial profiling, and this may be indicative of something or other, but then some of the more conservative people here probably would support racial profiling).

I wouldn’t slime Maher with “bigot” but he has made some profoundly stupid statements that seem to reveal a deeper messed up view. For example, when the Egypt crisis occurred, he said, “Saw Rudy Guliani defending Mubarak! Sure, black people getting roughed up in the streets, he gets nostalgic for his days as mayor.” You have to really wonder about a statement like that.
Likewise, his criticism of Islam is really simple minded. I really recommend that he dive beyond Ayaan Hirsi Ali and read some Irshad Manji in order to realize that Islam is not homogenous. He seems to view all religion as unitarily homogenous though.
