If they’re like my dad, they’ll blame Obama for it. Seriously. They’ve swallowed the death panels and scare tactics whole, and nothing the GOP can do will ever make people like this believe it’s anything but a socialist plot, or that the GOP had any hand whatsoever in it.

And they’ll keep voting GOP because it’s good for ‘merica. And they’re good with money.

I find this interesting since a large percentage of Tea Party backers are older and thus far more likely to feel the impact of these benefits. Could this cause a rift in the ranks?

It really matters little which side prevails here … we are screwed. The only difference will be whether its a right or left handed screw.

Hey. If they were important they can afford health care. If not, who gives a shit.

In the GOP’s mind your wealth is a measure of your value as a human being and the poor don’t qualify as human.

To me it’s that 30-50 year old section of line in the GOP that’s vulnerable because of the impacts of the below 54 retirement cuts combined with the buttloads of social legislation that the GOP is pushing atm, while it’s the Dems who are vulnerable above that 54 year old line…

The conservative rank and file seem to fall into the great idea as long as it’s not instituted before I’m 55 camp.

I need my medical care, others are freeloading…/

I don’t know if it will matter much. Most would probably prefer to take the credit and keep some form of private insurance, since most of the things we (I’m in the 30-50 group) hear about Medicare (lack of doctors, bad quality due to low reimbursement rates) are bad, and will only get worse as baby-boomers stress the system ahead of us. Ryan’s plan also introduces raising the benefit age (slowly to 67) and means testing (the top 8% income earners get less of a benefit). But $8000 in 2022 to buy insurance at age 65 doesn’t sound like much! And Ryan’s plan does nothing to control medical costs, except tort reform, which won’t amount to much.
