1 What, me worry?  Tue, Apr 12, 2011 10:45:20am

I'm confused though. In the Guardian article is this (what you referred to)

The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, the armed wing of Fatah, the dominant political faction in the West Bank, said it had carried out the "heroic operation … in response to the fascist occupation against our people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip".

That is Abbas' army, Arafat's old army. Is Abbas not the commander in chief of his own army?

This isn't surprising. Arafat did this ALL time. Talk out of two sides of his face. I'm just saying Abbas may be the better of two evils, but he's no prize either. (I know you're aware of that heh)

The bigger questions, why weren't the Fogel murders, the recent southern bombings and Israel's awesome Iron Drones on the front page of every freakin paper in the country?

The Fogel murders were not widely reported in the international media, not out of deliberate malice, but because they occurred at the same time as the Japanese tsunami.

Two points:

1. It is simply wrong to accuse Reuters of attempting to draw a moral equivalence between the butchering of the Fogel infants and their parents and Israel's attempts to collect evidence in its search for the perpetrators. In Reuters' presentation, the latter is far worse.

2. Second, and more importantly, in any healthy society, the leadership and residents of Awarta would be getting in line and bending over backwards to help capture and bring to justice the butcher(s) of the Fogel family. It is a sad commentary on the state of Palestinian society that they appear to be doing nothing to assist in tracking down the animals who had no compunction about slitting the throat of a 3 month old baby and stabbing a 3-year old child twice in the heart, but cry to the winds because of the taking of fingerprints and DNA exemplars in connection with the Israeli authorities' investigation of the brutal crime. If Reuters, or any other media outlet, was at all concerned about reporting on something newsworthy, they would be questioning how the UN can declare that the Palestinians are ready for statehood in light of the empirical evidence to the contrary.
