You know that much of the pro-life agenda is largely about preventing sex for pleasure, right? Any idiot can see that contraceptives would prevent the possibilities of abortions taking place.

These people are saying that contraception CAUSES abortion. They are trying to make it a "fact" that the two are really one in the same.

I don't think they care about sex for pleasure. They want people to have sex and lots of babies. It is in their interest to keep a population poor, tired and open to suggestion.

I think you hit the nail on the head more than people want to admit. A large majority of the religious right do not want you to have sex for pleasure. Some serious issues there.

“Fertility and babies are not diseases,” said Jeanne Monahan of the Family Research Council’s Center for Human Dignity

Overpopulation, hunger, poverty, and women unable to support their children are always ignored in this happy shiny depiction of eternally pregnant women that blindly accept every inevitable pregnancy (humping = sperm meets egg) as God's will.

Imagine if in the most impoverished countries where hundreds and hundreds of children die of hunger and disease every day, if those mothers had access to and practiced birth control/family planning. When faced with yet another child dying in your arms from starvation, what about this concept: if you can't feed it, don't breed it. Imagine if women had this kind of control over their futures, and the futures of their children.

But I suppose it's God's will thousands of children die from starvation and disease because God's blessing ended where sperm met an egg, and because women were helpless, mindless vessels fulfilling biological prophecy in the face of dire circumstances.

Sex for pleasure = sex by choice, and not strictly for breeding.

Also, the reason they fight so hard against birth control is that The Pill changed everything. Women finally had a real say in controlling their fertility, and their sexuality. From the anti-choice POV, this is unforgivable. Women are supposed to confine sex to marriage and they're supposed to have as many babies as possible. Giving a woman the means to limit that goes against their view of God's plan.

Every egg is sacred. If even one gets wasted god gets quite irate...or something.

Let us remind these people that unlike contraception their god aborts as much as 70% of post implant pregnancies. Talk about population control!

I disagree. They are against sex for pleasure by everyone else, since they probably haven't had any.

I don't think it's sex for pleasure that they are against. They are against people meddling with God's Plan. Most of them believe that their lives are set in stone in God's Plan. Anything done by human will (contraception, among them), goes against God's Plan. The problem is, no one knows God's Plan except God himself. As Pratchett and Gaiman wrote in Good Omens:

God does not play dice with the universe: He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.

I was taught in RC school that fate and free will are not compatible. If everything is preordained, then G-d didn't really give us free will.

Whacho™ Christians need to get their theology straight.

I also have to wonder if those who don't want us to have sex for pleasure are those that have dysfunctional sex lives themselves. Sort of a sour grapes attitude. "I'm virtuous because I was a virgin when I got married and have a shit sex life because I didn't know myself very well and am married to someone who is conditioned to be shameful about sex--why should I be the only one to suffer?"
