Waterloo police blow up military ordnance

Waterloo authorities detonated some explosive material that had been found along the Cedar River.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier says the Waterloo Police bomb squad blew up the ordnance Thursday night where it was found. Two downtown bridges were closed as the squad prepared the blast. The explosion shook buildings and was heard blocks away.
The material was discovered around 4 p.m. Thursday. It was described only as military ordnance.
