Brewer signs legislation on adoption, abortion, and turning the wingnuts loose
Gov. Jan Brewer today signed legislation giving preference to married couples in adoption.
The move comes over the objections of some who said there is no reason to believe that children who need homes always do better where there is a married mother and father. The governor gave no reason for her decision.
Brewer also signed two other measures this afternoon which also were sought by some of the same lobbyists.
[anti-abortion measures covered here, but the worst follows:]
Can she do that? I guess we’ll see her in court. I hope. I hereby withdraw any iota of respect I mustered up when she said the birther bill might go to far.The governor also penned her approval to a measure giving churches and religious institutions the ability in some circumstances to lobby issues and even try to influence the outcome of ballot measures.
As approved the law bars state and local officials from requiring any these entities to register as a political committee if it “does not spend a substantial amount of time or assets” on those activities.
