Shine a light and see the cock-roaches scurry.

A thinking American would ask how it is possible the GOP or any American political group with the interests of the people at heart could be opposed to seeing where the money comes from.

This is just what the doctor ordered. “I stand on my principles…which were bought and paid for by (fill in blank).”

I like this too for the reasons said. Why should they be able to hide what they are? If you’re going to donate your money to a cause or candidate, at least have the nads to be honest about who you are.

I think politicians should have to wear the logos of corporations that donate to their campaigns more than, say $5000.

I imagine they’d look like race cars. Instead of calling them by their given names we could refer to them by their sponsors.

“The Walmart senator has the floor.”

It’s a draft order, he hasn’t signed it. I can’t find any actual news stories that say he has signed it.

I don’t like the order as the draft is written.

Since Congress hasn’t acted, Obama wants to use the federal procurement process (supposedly a non-political process) as leverage to get corporations to reveal information that they are not required to reveal by law. The is clearly an attempt to limit donations to the president’s political enemies, and to punish them for past donations. What does an anonymous donation to a third party have to do with being able to successfully perform a government contract? The disclosure requirement is arbitrary - it has nothing to do with being able to meet contract requirements.

And there is the other side. I don’t know if Google bids on federal contracts (probably), but Google and other corporations who give anonymously to progressive causes (many tech companies) might think twice about supporting something pro-choice or pro-gay organizations if they are forced to reveal their level of support - they might decide that being perceived as pro-choice or pro-gay is bad for business.

Another thing I don’t like is that this applies to individuals (corporate officers) as well as corporations. This could lead to the blacklisting of individuals who have given to perceived “radical” causes, whether left of right.
