1 What, me worry?  Fri, Apr 22, 2011 10:19:21am

Wow first time I heard of it. I'm sure you're more familiar because it's your neck of the woods. The dude didn't have a PR machine like Terry Jones, I guess.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a prominent Muslim group, said they thought Fenton should keep his job: "Our question was always, was his action in any way related to his duties on the job? Apparently it wasn't. What he did, however reprehensible, should not impact on his employment," spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said today.

Ya suppose Geller will send a little love to Ibrahim for that statement?

re: #1 marjoriemoon

Hooper apparently has a better understanding of the 1st Amendment than NJ Transit did - despite Fenton's irresponsible and reprehensible actions using the free speech protections.

25 Gs in pain and suffering? Because he got fired? I find that tragically hard to believe. Any press related attention he got was because of his action, not because of his dismissal by the state (although one certainly led to the other). I agree with the ACLU, that free speech is one of the cornerstones of our nation, but I also agree with New Jersey Transit. He was fired under their code of ethics for employees. He may not have been working, but as a government employee, we (me included, although I work for the Feds) are held to higher standards than private sector folk.
