1 Glenn Beck's Grand Unifying Theory of Obdicut  Tue, Apr 26, 2011 2:18:12pm

I don’t how they can even imagine selling the health insurance fund. That’s just stealing.

re: #1 Obdicut

I don’t how they can even imagine selling the health insurance fund. That’s just stealing.

That’s how I see it as well.

I guess he would “justify” it by saying that we would still have coverage, it would just all be administered privately, instead of through the state agency.

Right now, that state agency is dedicated to providing state employees with the coverage WE NEED.

Some of the plans are administered through private companies, like Blue Cross/Blue Shield. However, the state Group Benefits determines coverages, what is covered, limits of coverage, etc., and provides the funds to the company to pay the claims that come in. The company provides the employees and the claims processing service.

Now, I know this because I worked for the State Group Benefits agency for a short period of time. The head of the agency told me once that they were going to raise the plan’s lifetime maximum which is the point at which the plan has paid all it’s going to pay for a covered individual - usually, a plan has a lifetime maximum, and every plan year “X” amount is restored to it. So if a employee has $5000 worth of claims, and the plan calls for a $10,000 per year restoration, then the employee has full coverage all the time. The lifetime maximum only comes into play when someone is very ill, and uses thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars over the course of a year or two.

Anyhow - he told me he was about to get the board to raise the lifetime maximum, BECAUSE there was a covered employee, ONE, who was very ill and had nearly reached it, and there was no way he (the Director) was going to allow the state employee’s insurance plan to leave an employee uncovered.

AND - how many private plans will keep extra money received and place it into a reserve for FUTURE USE by covered employees?

I’m very disgusted.

I swear Reine, it is a race to the bottom for many state governors. They avoid raising taxes on the wealthy or corporations at all cost. This approach to attracting business at the expense of those who can ill afford it, and by cutting education is short term thinking.

I am in TX, I feel your pain. Perry is the pack leader in this race to the bottom. You can bet Jindal is following his lead. He has too, or the business in LA will just move next door to TX. Or so the thinking goes.
