Sorry, but the linked site is just another wingnut site (thus the down ding.)

The Ahava store issue may be very important in its own right, but I’d rather read about it from someone with a bit more gravitas.

Sorry, I must disagree with you here. The Ahava story was covered closely by anti-Israel news sources such as the Guardian until the Ahava four were convicted of trespassing last week. Since then, it has been completely ignored by the mainstream press including, not surprisingly, the Guardian. Aside from the Jewish Chronicle in Britain and a few bloggers, the fact that the the Ahava four were convicted by the British court has not been reported on at all.

I was not previously familiar with this woman or her website, but she does not appear to be a “wingnut” at all. In any case, her description of the events, based at least partly on personal observation, seems accurate.

The Ahava store issue is very important, and not just for supporters of Israel. Britain allowed a relatively small group of “protesters” to drive away a perfectly lawful business based solely on who owned it. This was literally done in broad daylight, with the complicity of other store owners who did not want to be bothered, by the police and by the courts - at least until now.

The “protesters” could have raised a legal challenge against Ahava in the courts, but they did not, claiming they could not afford to do so. Well, they have legal counsel, so that excuse is not convincing. More likely, they really had no legal challenge against Ahava and so they resorted to chaining themselves to a concrete block in the store, harassing customers and defacing the storefront. These are the same people that “deshelve” Israeli products in Europe and the US, basically vandalizing stores and terrorizing patrons all in the name of BDS.

If you have a store with any Israeli products (and no, they do not only go for products they claim are from the West Bank), they will come for you too. If your store has been cleansed of products from Israel because you are afraid of what they will do to you or your business…I think you get the idea, at least I hope so.

I object to your comment that you’d rather read it about from someone else “with a bit more gravitas”. Who did you have in mind? The story is basically only reported in the blogosphere, and her version of it is as good as any of the few others I’ve read, possibly better and more compelling. In fact, I think she has it exactly right.

I’m with her.

I know that I saw this story last week, and I don’t go to blogs, just news pages. However, I can’t find the story today. I’m still looking.

The only source I have been able to find for this story outside of the blogs is the Jewish Chronicle (UK):

thejc.com

I am not surprised to see that papers with a strong anti-Israel bent like the Guardian have ceased reporting on this story since it stopped going their way, but I am disappointed that it has not appeared in mainstream news sources in Britain, the US or even in Israel (at least the English-language papers).

re: #4 Samson

I think it did appear in something substantial, but I just can’t seem to locate it. I don’t make a habit of checking the Guardian, outside of Google News. I’m pretty sure it was out there.
